Thanksgiving

It’s dark. You walk to the garage. You start the car and aim it towards Iowa.

You roll through the Illinois fields newly covered in snow. You turn off the Interstate onto Highway 30. You cross the Mississippi River at Clinton. You love crossing the Mississippi.

Highway 30 turns into a two lane road. There is no snow in Iowa, just the brown remains of the corn fields fresh from harvesting, like the stubble on the face of an old man poorly shaved.

You drive through the small farm towns: Grand Mound, Clarence, Lisbon, and others whose names you don’t recall.

You eat a feast at your sister’s, the best meal you’ve eaten in a year, the last time you were there for Thanksgiving.

Later, back in Chicago, you think of your sister and just how much you love her and how it is so nice to have some place to go on Thanksgiving.

Hi Lynn
So good to hear from you today. I was wondering where you were and what you were up to. Things do get busy around this time of year for sure, but I wanted to check that you were ok and let you know that I missed your blog postings. I check your blog every day. Nice to hear that you were just busy celebrating Thanksgiving with your family.

Glad you got a chuckle or two out of my blog. Still makes me smile too, and I imagine the girls at my hostess's work had a good guffaw about it also. Always good to spread the cheer around at this time of year!

Are you kidding me about the spray paint? Not on your life would I try anything like that. I would probably end up leaving black foot prints here and there, or get caught in the rain and leave a trail of black paint, or put the shoes on before they are completely dry and get black marks on my feet....oh, don't even want to think about that. No, no, no! No spray paint or any other short cuts for me ever again. Well, almost never!

Sounds like you are in the middle of an exciting writing project and that is a such a nice place to be isn't it? Sweet indeed.

Enjoy your night out with your friends, and take good care of yourself. Talk to you later.
