Cartoons and local politics

Juan Cole has a good article in Salon explaining how reactions to the Danish cartoons relate to local politics in the Mideast. See All cartoon politics are local.

If you are interested in Mideast politics, Mideast history, and the Iraq War, and you have not been reading Juan Cole's Informed Comment blog, you are missing out.

I beleive the Cole article is on Salon, not Slate... A mistake I make all the time myself.

I think most of the coverage of this controversy has been cartoonish in it's own right. For a complex and far ranging discussion on the issue with people who actuall know something of the middle east (no disrespect to Juan) you really must listen to this public radio broadcast.

The show is called On Point and is produced by WBUR in Boston. It is distributed through NPR, but I don't know how widely. A fantastic program.

epm,

Oops! You are right. I have made the correction.

Thanks for the link. I'll check to see if the show is carried on NPR here.

lynn,

If your local public radio affiliate doesn't carry On Point, you can always stream it online, or podcast it free with iTunes. It's the most informative current events and culture program I know of.
