536

The year 1862 was a very good year for poetry because Emily Dickinson wrote a lot of poems that year. Here is one of them

536

The Heart asks Pleasure--first--
And then--Excuse from Pain--
And then--those little Anodynes
That deaden suffering--

And then--to go to sleep--
And then--if it should be
The will of its Inquisitor
The privilege to die--

I was speculating on my latest post after reading the comments about who except Kerry & Kennedy could lead the charge. Obama came to mind but I'm sure they'd trash him as "inexperienced"

Maybe in his next term. I'm sure he'll have one. Unless he's already thinking beyond the Senate. I have a friend here who is already daydreaming about the possibility.

an,

That is one of the things that fascinates me about her. She had all those wonderful manuscripts that no one knew about.

Emily is one of my three favorite poets.

I stopped by your blog and liked it. I'll be adding it to my list.
